ALBANY — A Massachusetts man suffered serious injuries Saturday after falling 50 feet off Woodchuck Ledge in Albany.

According to New Hampshire Fish and Game Conservation Officer Sgt. Alex Lopashanski, shortly before 1 p.m. on Saturday a man identified as Keith Rehermann, 35, of Wakefield, Mass., was rock climbing about 50 feet up the cliff at Woodchuck Ledge in Albany when he fell. Several pieces of gear he had placed to stop his fall failed, and he landed at the base of the climb.

His climbing partner called 911 for help. The cliff is located over a half mile from the nearest road, and rescue personnel along with nearby climbers arrived on scene to offer assistance.

Rehermann suffered injuries to his right side and officials were concerned for his spine. He was immobilized, placed in a litter and lowered from the ledge, then carried out to a waiting ambulance. He reached the ambulance shortly after 4 p.m., and was transported to Memorial Hospital in North Conway for treatment.

No further information was available Monday night.
