College Roundup: UNH men's hockey up to 17th

The University of New Hampshire men's hockey team, still unbeaten after four games, rose from 20th to 17th in the poll released on Monday.

The Wildcats swept ECAC member Colgate last weekend. They will play two more non-leaguers this weekend (Friday and Saturday nights), against 3-1 Colorado College of the NCHC. The Tigers split with Vermont to open the season, then swept Alaska-Anchorage last weekend.

Also on Monday, UNH's Michael McNicholas was named Hockey East Player of the Week for his performance in the Colgate games. The senior forward from Trumbull, Conn., had one goal and four assists against the Raiders.

UNH football down to 18th

The UNH football team, which lost at Stony Brook on Saturday, dropped from 12th to 18th in both the STATS FCS Top 25 and the FCS Coaches' Poll released on Monday.

The Wildcats (2-1 in the CAA, 4-2 overall) host Towson on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Wildcat Stadium. The Tigers are 2-4 overall, 0-3 in the CAA.

Plymouth State football third in N.E.

The Plymouth State football team, fresh off its overtime victory over Framingham State, jumped from sixth (tie) to third in the New England Division III football rankings released on Monday.

The Panthers (4-1 in the MASCAC, 6-1 overall) visit Mass. Maritime on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Buzzards Bay, Mass.

Also on Monday, Manchester's Zach Ziemba was honored on the MASCAC's weekly honor roll for his big defensive effort against Framingham State. Ziemba, a defensive back, had nine tackles, a forced fumble and a blocked kick.
