New Hampshire College Roundup: UNH's Purrier wins NCAA pre-nationals

University of New Hampshire senior cross country runner Elinor Purrier finished first in the NCAA Pre-National meet, beating out defending NCAA champion Karissa Schweizer on Saturday afternoon in Louisville.
The pre-national meet lets runners preview the course that the NCAA Championship meet will be held on that year; the Championship meet this year is scheduled for Saturday, Nov 18, at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park in Louisville.
Purrier finished first with a time of 19.28.5, beating her previous time that she recorded in the 2016 pre-national meet of 20 minutes, 15.4 seconds, when she finished in fifth place overall.
New England College: Senior Abby Shafer set a meet record with a time of 18:34 to win the 12th running of the Saints Invitational 5k hosted by Emmanuel College on Friday afternoon.
The victory marked the sixth win of the season for Shafer.
Stonehill 3, St. Anselm 2: At Easton, Mass., Katy Teets led the Hawks with 13 kills and eight digs.
UNH 3, Hartford 0: At Durham, Kennedi Smith and Emily Tanski recorded 10 kills each for the Wildcats.
St. Rose 4, St. Anselm 2: At Albany, N.Y., Corey Murray and Kiley Larocque scored for the Hawks.
LeMoyne 2, St. Anselm 1: At Syracuse, N.Y., Kyler Thayer scored his first collegiate goal for the Hawks in the loss.
