Boston hikers need help when Dickey Mountain Trail gets too dark

October 09. 2017 9:10AM

THORNTON — Two hikers from Boston needed help coming down the Dickey Mountain Trail Saturday evening after it got too dark for them to follow trail markers, Fish and Game officials said.

Yuzhang Zeng, 26 and Jiachao Li, 27, called 911 about 6:30 p.m., saying it was too dark to see and they were worried about trying to hike in the dark.

Rescuers from Thornton police, Campton-Thornton Fire and Rescue, Waterville Valley Department of Public Safety and Fish and Game used GPS coordinates from the 911 call to find the uninjured pair about 1.4 miles from the trailhead just before 9:30 p.m.

The two were able to hike out with rescuers once they were given flashlights.

Fish and Game officials reminded hikers that they should bring food, water, lights, extra clothes, a map and a compass whenever they head out on the state’s trails.
