Former Pinkerton Academy and UNH star Paul Thompson cleared waivers and on Tuesday joined the AHL Chicago Wolves.

Thompson, waived by the Vegas Golden Knights on Monday for the purpose of reassignment, was scheduled for his first practice with the Wolves on Wednesday.

The AHL is nothing new for Thompson, who had 19 goals and 23 assists in 51 games for Springfield last season.

Sanford has surgery

St. Louis Blues forward Zach Sanford, also a former Pinkerton star, underwent successful surgery on his dislocated left shoulder, the team announced Wednesday.

Sanford, 22, is expected to be sidelined five to six months after dislocating his shoulder during training camp last week.

The surgery was performed on Tuesday at the Washington University and Barnes-Jewish Orthopedics Center in Chesterfield, Mo.

Sanford, of Manchester, joined the Blues last season via trade from the Washington Capitals on Feb. 27.
