COREY LEDET & HIS ZYDECO BAND “Standing on Faith” (independent release)
The two-minute intro on Corey Ledet’s “Standing on Faith” sounds more like something that would kick off a Prince album than a collection of zydeco tunes.
Ledet and his band aim to inject some young blood into the traditional Louisiana genre, which could use a fresh reboot.
Ledet was born and raised in Houston, Texas, but spent summers in Louisiana. He’s released several previous albums including the Grammy-nominated “Nothin’ But The Best” in 2012.
This brief eight-track disc introduces listeners to Ledet’s positive energy, exemplified by the inspirational title cut, the breezy “A Good Day” and the funk-laced “Street Light.”
Ledet handles accordion, drums, washboard and lead vocals, with assists from Jesse Delgizzi on guitar, bass, moog and vocals and Cecil Green on keyboards. Together, they produce a brand of zydeco that should appeal to young listeners brought up on hip-hop and modern R&B.
