Chill out with Winterfest and chili contest on Squam Lake

Cleared ice rinks on Squam Lake invite some cold-weather fun. 

HOLDERNESS — The Squam Lakes Association will host its 14th annual Winterfest and Chili Cook-off from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at the SLA Resource Center, 534 Route 3.

Two cleared ice rinks on Squam Lake invite some cold-weather fun. There will be ice skating, sledding, cross-county skiing, pick-up pond hockey, Nordic skating demonstrations and winter mini-golf.

Visitors can warm up by a bonfire and toast some marshmallows while sipping hot cocoa.

The annual chili contest will feature entries from local restaurants, including the Golden Pond Country Store, Manor on Golden Pond, Ashland Common Man, Six Burner Bistro, Mad River Tavern, Walter’s Basin, Lucky Dog Tavern and Grill, Rumney’s Common Cafe and Tavern, Phat Fish, and The Mug Restaurant.

Bring a mug and spoon from home, or buy a Squam mug.
