PORTSMOUTH — Officials at Adaptive Communications announced Thursday their company is being acquired by Optiv Security.

The Portsmouth-based business provides network services, information security and data storage solutions to brand-name companies throughout New England and the mid-Atlantic. President Stephen Thorpe said his 53 employees will benefit from the partnership.

“They’re going to be greatly affected, and are excited. There are a number of growth opportunities,” he said.

Thorpe said his 600 clients also will benefit because Optiv Security brings “a tremendous amount of depth to what we’re already doing.”

Based in Denver, Colo., Optiv Security provides cyber security solutions. Officials say the transaction further strengthens Optiv’s presence in New England.

“Optiv is on a mission to help make businesses more secure,” said Tim Hoffman, Optiv’s executive vice president, client solutions. “This acquisition presents an opportunity to add scale to our New England region and efficiently provide cyber security services and solutions that can be leveraged to better meet our clients’ specific needs. We are pleased with our success in New England, and we are confident that partnering with Adaptive will only add to our momentum.”

Thorpe, who started Adaptive with his wife, Marjorie, from their home in Stratham almost 19 years ago, said the company’s commitment to New Hampshire remains unwavering.

The two were named finalists for the Entrepreneur of the Year award from the NH High Tech Council, which will announce the winner on Tuesday. (See accompanying story.)
