PITTSBURG — A Massachusetts man who hit a tree while snowmobiling around 3:30 a.m. Sunday used some of the wreckage to build a fire to keep him warm until help arrived, the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department said.
Todd Borders, 46, of Centerville, Mass., told conservation officers he swerved to avoid hitting a deer, driving off the Cowen Hill Trail and hitting the tree.
Conservation officers said Borders used pieces of the snowmobile while building a fire on the trail and waited out the rest of the night. Borders encountered two other snowmobilers around 7 a.m. and got a ride back to his camp on Beach Road in Pittsburg, then called Fish and Game to report the accident.
Borders refused to be taken to the hospital.
