Manchester man arrested after police say he crashed stolen car

A Manchester man is under arrest after a police chase from Salem into Massachusetts, where he crashed a stolen Honda into a utility pole, splitting the car in two, according to state police.

The incident began a little after 10 p.m. Tuesday when N.H. State Police Trooper Jack DeJesus, on Interstate 93 South in Salem, tried to stop a 1994 blue Honda Accord with Massachusetts plates that had been reported stolen in Manchester.

DeJesus activated his blue lights as the car crossed into Massachusetts, according to police. The driver, later identified by police as Tommy M. Rogers, 29, of Manchester, pulled over into the breakdown lane for a brief moment but police said he then drove off.
DeJesus chased the stolen car south on I-93, then east onto Route 213, then on Pleasant Valley Street in Methuen, where the Honda crashed into a utility pole near Oak Street.

The car was split in two but authorities said Rogers and his female passenger, who police did not identify in a news release, both got out of the wreckage and ran into a nearby McDonald's, where Rogers was arrested.
The woman was interviewed and released. She was not charged.

Neither Rogers nor his passenger were injured. The car was destroyed and two trucks were needed to tow the wreckage. The utility pole also was damaged.
Rogers is charged with being a fugitive from justice and receiving stolen property. He will be arraigned Wednesday morning in Lawrence (Mass.) District Court.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Trooper DeJesus at Troop B in Bedford at 603-666-3333.
