MANCHESTER — The Fall 2014 session of the Youth Leadership Academy for high school students begins Tuesday, Sept. 23, and wraps up with graduation Oct. 21. Manchester high school students who participate are eligible for school credits, but participants do not have to be city residents.
The academy sessions are from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays in the Manchester Police Department community room at 405 Valley St., except for a special class Thursday, Oct. 16, at the Circuit Court-Manchester District Division at 35 Amherst St.
There will be various guest speakers, including members of the Board of Mayor and Alderman, former newspaper reporter and columnist John Clayton, members of the Manchester Police Department, and Richard Haynes of the University of New Hampshire admissions office, who argues that every year is the most important year of high school in preparing for the rest of a person’s life.
The graduation ceremony for the Youth Leadership Academy will be Oct. 21 at Manchester City Hall.
Students interested in participating should email Officer John Levasseur of the Community Policing Division at firstname.lastname@example.org. He will make arrangements and provide the applications. The class is limited to 20 students, but there will be another academy in the spring.
