KSC field hockey first in coaches poll

The Keene State College field hockey team has been selected as the Little East Conference favorite in the preseason coaches poll.

Keene State was 11-0 in conference play and won the league championship in 2013.

The Owls received seven of 11 possible first-place votes and totaled 115 points in the poll.

UMass-Dartmouth and Plymouth State University each took a share of the second spot, both earning 109 points.

Keene State head coach and 2013 Little East Coach of the Year Amy Watson is entering her 25th year leading the program.

Women’s soccer

The Franklin Pierce University women’s soccer team has been selected sixth in the Northeast-10 Conference preseason coaches’ poll. Southern New Hampshire University finished in a tie for seventh place, St. Anselm 10th.

After a 7-8-3 campaign in 2013, Franklin Pierce returns three of its four All-Northeast-10 selections from a year ago in senior back Gabriela Vieira, senior midfielder Caroline Savasta and junior forward Hannah Weagle.

Franklin Pierce opens the season next Thursday when it hosts Dominican (N.Y.) at 7 p.m.

Southern New Hampshire returns 14 players, including four of its top six scorers, from a 2013 team that finished 7-8-3 overall. SNHU opens next Thursday when it faces Caldwell University in the first round of the Franklin Pierce Tournament.

Men’s soccer

The Colby-Sawyer College men’s soccer team has been pegged sixth in the North Atlantic Conference coaches poll. The Chargers were 9-9-3 last season. New England College was picked fifth.
