HOLLIS — Following a successful fundraising campaign, construction will soon begin on a new playground at Nichols Field.
The project, which will also include a revamped version of the playground next door to the Hollis Social Library, is expected to be completed by late fall, town officials said during Monday night’s Board of Selectmen meeting.
“We’ve had a very successful summer of fundraising,” Anna Birch, organizer of the Hollis Parks Project, said this week. “In fact, we’ve not only met our goals, we’ve exceeded them.”
Over the past three months, project organizers have been selling personalized bricks to be installed on the new play area. As of this month, well over 150 bricks had been purchased by citizens, area businesses and organizations.
Arthur and Sophie Lyford, owners of a local dental clinic, made matching donations, while several local landscapers agreed to provide in-kind donations.
By early August, the Hollis Park Project had raised $50,000, which was $10,000 more than their initial fundraising goal.To follow the project’s progress, visit www.hollisplays.org or the Hollis Parks Project page on Facebook.
