Police asking for help locating alleged donation jar thief

PELHAM – Police are asking for the public's help in locating a man suspecting of stealing a donation jar for a no-kill animal shelter from a local convenience store.

In early August, a man entered the Gage Hill Farms Convenience Store on Route 38 and stole the Feline Friends donation jar.

The man was caught on video surveillance and the footage was released to the public for assistance in identifying him, according to Police Chief Joseph Roark.

With the help of the Methuen, Mass., police department and several anonymous tips, the alleged donation jar thief was identified as Justin McGrail, 32, of Methuen. A warrant has been issued for his arrest and the police department is looking for assistance in locating him.

According to police, McGrail is know to hang out in the Methuen and Salem area. Anyone who knows where he is is asked to contact the local police and allow the authorities to arrest him.

Since the jar was stolen, Gage Hill Farms Convenience Store manager David Bergeron said the there have been numerous donations and people coming into the store to support the Feline Friends. Bergeron estimates that as much as $500 has been donated since McGrail allegedly stole the jar.

Feline Friends is a no-kill, non-profit organization run by volunteers that uses foster homes and an adoption center at the PetSmart store in Salem for cats. Money donated to the organization goes toward the cost of supplies and healthcare for the cats.

Anyone with information that could lead to McGrail's arrest is asked to call the Pelham Police Department at (603) 635-2411.
