Antrim standoff suspect to appear in court Friday

ANTRIM — A High Street man arrested after a short standoff with police Aug. 15, is expected in court this week for a probable cause hearing.

Denis Nugent, 32, of 15 High St. is charged with felony level criminal threatening and felony level reckless conduct. He is set to appear for his probable cause hearing in the 6th Circuit Court District Division in Hillsborough Friday morning.

He is currently being held in the Hillsborough County House of Corrections in Manchester in lieu of $100,000 bail.

Police responded to 15 High St. on Aug. 15 around 4:43 p.m. for a report of a man threatening to shoot everyone in the home.

A portion of High Street was closed and Hillsborough, Greenfield, Bennington and Hancock police and Antrim Ambulance were called in to stage away from the residence.

When Antrim police arrived they found all the other occupants of the home had left the home and were unharmed.

Nugent was reportedly armed with a handgun and highly intoxicated, police said. At one point Nugent exited the home with the handgun pointed at his head and made contact with Antrim police before fleeing back inside the home.

A short time later Nugent came outside unarmed and was ordered to the ground by police.

The standoff was resolved within 15 minutes, said Antrim police Sgt. Ryan Storro.

Nugent was treated by ambulance workers for self-inflicted lacerations to the wrist and was taken to Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough where he was booked and bailed on $200,000 cash or surety.

He was arraigned on the charges in the district court on Aug. 18, at which his bail was reduced to $100,000 cash.

Nugent is scheduled to return to court on Friday, Storro said.
