Derry council’s town administrator applicant deadline passes

DERRY — With the deadline already passed for filing applications, town councilors will get an update on the ongoing search for a new town administrator at their regular Tuesday night meeting.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. in the third-floor meeting room of the Municipal Center.

The search is the second that councilors have conducted this year after announcing earlier this summer they were passing over the two remaining finalists — Richard Brown, of Massachusetts and Stephen Eldridge, of Maine — and reopening the search.
The deadline for filing applications during this latest round was Aug. 15.

Councilors are seeking to fill the post that was last held by former Town Administrator John Anderson, who’d been discharged in October by the town without cause. He had been charged with lewdness and indecent exposure, both misdemeanors last August, following an incident that allegedly occurred at his house on July 11, 2013, involving a DirectTV salesman.
Anderson remains free on $2,000 personal recognizance. His trial is set for 8:30 a.m. Tuesday in 10th Circuit Court.

The big difference from the initial search, is this time councilors have outlined a salary range of $100,000 to $125,000, with a generous benefits package, Councilor David Fischer said.
Councilors also agreed to require applicants to have CEO and/or management experience.

The council could name a new administrator as early as Sept. 16.

Also during the meeting, councilors are scheduled to discuss a proposal to authorize the New Hampshire Department of Transportation to manage the construction and funding of controversial Exit 4A.
