The New Hampshire Fisher Cats won’t be in the Eastern League playoffs this summer, but the team is making strides toward making this season a respectable one.

A three-run sixth inning rally highlighted by a two-run single from Cory Aldridge led the Fisher Cats past Akron 3-2 at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium Sunday. The win, coupled with Saturday’s 8-5 triumph, allowed New Hampshire (61-66) to creep closer to the .500 mark and salvage a 3-3 homestand.

Greg Infante gained his 19th save with two scoreless innings. The Fisher Cats took advantage of four walks and a hits batsman in the sixth inning. Jorge Flores (walk), Melky Mesa (hit by pitch) and Andy Burns (walk) loaded the bases before Aldridge tied the game 2-2 with his hit.

Another walk to Nashua’s Kevin Nolan re-loaded the bases and New Hampshire took the lead when Mike McDade walked, forcing home Burns.

Akron (70-58) scored in the third inning on a homer from Tim Fedroff. Jake Lowery singled to plate a run in the fourth frame.

Austin Bibens-Dirkx (6-2) pitched a six-hitter in six innings for the win. He had no walks and fanned five.

In Saturday’s win for New Hampshire, Matt Newman delivered a three-run homer in the second inning and K.C. Hobson had a two-run double in the fifth inning.

After a day off today, the Fisher Cats open a three-game road series Tuesday in Trenton. P.J. Walters (1-1, 3.52) will pitch for New Hampshire in the 7:05 p.m. start.

New Hampshire returns to Northeast Delta Dental Stadium for the final homestand of the season beginning Friday at 7 p.m. against Portland.

The Sea Dogs are in town through Sunday before New Hampshire closes out its homestand with a four-game series against Harrisburg from Aug. 25-28.
