Renovations should be completed by first day of school in Salem

SALEM — The major renovation projects at the Soule and Fisk elementary schools should be completed by the time teachers and students head back to school.

Final work is underway at both the schools, and general clean up should be completed in time for back-to-school night on Aug. 25, according to Superintendent Michael Delahanty.

Work at Fisk had fallen behind schedule because of some ledge issues with the site work last year, but Delahanty said the construction manager and sub-contractors have been working hard to get back on schedule.

Base paving and curb installation at both schools are scheduled to be done this week, with the finish paving completed by Friday.

Furniture deliveries to the schools are also scheduled for this week.

At Soule, the old bus port entrance is undergoing renovations with new entrance doors expected to be installed this week. The finish flooring has been completed in the new gymnasium and the cafeteria, and final inspections should take place soon, according to Delahanty.

At Fisk, the interior work, including flooring and plumbing fixtures, is nearing completion in the lower level.

Over the next week, ceiling tiles will be installed as finish work is completed in each room.

There will be some site work on the Main Street side of the Fisk School that won’t be completed by opening day, but all the interior work will done, according to Delahanty.

Work is also nearing completion on the smaller renovation project at the Haigh Elementary School. Back-to-school events for all of the district’s elementary schools are scheduled for Monday, Aug. 25.

The School Board will be announcing open house and tour dates for the schools at its meeting on Tuesday.
