WILTON — On Saturday night the curtain will close for the season after actors and actresses take their final bow on the stage at Andy’s Summer Playhouse.

The summer-long children’s theater program is putting on an original musical production through this weekend.

“Phantasmagoria — or — Voices from the Ether” is based on a true story of the 19th-century séance phenoms the Fox sisters. It explores the tale of these two young ladies who became famous for communicating with spirits. What started as a kind of local parlor trick quickly became a national phenomenon with young girls all over the U.S. discovering they too had the gift to speak to the dead.

Were the girls telling the truth or just acting out for attention? Either way, one thing was certain, girls across the country had finally found their voice and were going to continue to use it by whatever means necessary.

The production was written and directed by DJ Potter, who also wrote original music with Patrick Boutwell.

Twenty-two young actors from across the Monadnock region will come together under Potter’s direction to tell this mysterious tale. They will be accompanied by a live band of local musicians.

The nonprofit children’s theater provides kids ages 8 to 18 a chance to work with professional artists to create productions.

Performances are Wednesday through Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday at 4:30 p.m. Tickets are $14 for adults; $7 for kids under 12. During Andy’s 44th season, audiences enjoyed original productions of “The Strongest Girl in the World” and “The Block” at the historic 1860 white building set high on the hill in Wilton’s original center.
