Fisher Cats score early, beat Erie 7-4

Casey Lawrence got touched up for 11 hits but still pitched well enough to lead the Fisher Cats to a 7-4 Eastern League win over host Erie on Tuesday at Jerry Uht Park in Pennsylvania.

On 90 pitches, 57 for strikes, Lawrence (9-5) allowed four runs and one walk. He fanned three batters. Dustin Antolin pitched a scoreless eighth frame and Greg Infante earned his 16th save.

New Hampshire took a 1-0 first-inning lead when Dalton Pompey walked, stole second, advanced to third on an error and scored on a single from Cory Aldridge. The lead went to 2-0 in the third inning when Aldridge singled home Jon Berti, who started the inning with his 18th double of the season.

The Fisher Cats padded the lead to 5-0 in the fourth inning. Berti doubled again, scoring Jorge Flores, who reached on a single. Matt Newman followed with a two-run single, plating Dalton Pompey, who reached on a fielder’s choice, and Berti.

Erie got two runs back in the home fourth, but New Hampshire extended its lead to 6-2 in the sixth inning when Pompey scored on a fielding error.

Erie closed the gap to 6-4 in the home sixth, only to see the Fisher Cats respond with a ninth inning run. Andy Burns tripled and galloped home on a sacrifice fly by Mike McDade.

Berti, Burns and Aldridge had two hits apiece to pace New Hampshire’s 11-hit attack.

New Hampshire and Erie, both 56-60, resume their series today at 7 p.m.
