SEABROOK — A 12-year-old girl, whose identity is being withheld, is in a Boston hospital after being struck by a vehicle about 6 p.m. Thursday while she was with picketers at the Market Basket store on Lafayette Road.

Portsmouth Regional Hospital spokeswoman Nancy Notis said Friday night that the girl had been transferred to a Boston hospital.

She did not specify the nature of the injuries.

Seabrook police said a northbound motor vehicle left the roadway and struck the girl, who was with a group of pedestrians in front of Market Basket. Police said the girl was taken by ambulance to Portsmouth Regional Hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver also was taken to the hospital for evaluation.

Police said the driver was cooperating with the investigation and drug and alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors.

Police ask that anyone who witnessed the accident, and has not already spoken with police, contact officer Kevin Gelineau or Detective Scott Mendes at 474-5200.

Market Basket employees have set up a gofundme site to help the injured girl’s family with hospital expenses. The website is: http://www.gofundme.com/cemn00.
