Passengers rescued from disabled vessel in Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH — The U.S. Coast Guard rescued 27 passengers aboard a disabled vessel Friday afternoon, according to a release.

The Celia Thaxter had become disabled and was being pushed against the Sarah Mildred Long Bridge by the Piscataqua River current about 3 p.m. Friday, the release said. The Coast Guard and a crew from the New Hampshire Marine Patrol safely rescued the 24 passengers and two crew members.

The ship’s “master” stayed aboard while the vessel was towed to its dock in Portsmouth, the release said.

There were no injuries in the incident, the release said.
