Pembroke couple recovering from injuries in Dixville ATV crash

July 31. 2014 8:05AM

DIXVILLE – A Pembroke couple was injured in an ATV rollover on a trail Wednesday, according to New Hampshire Fish and Game officials.

Joseph Provencher, 53, and his wife, Cindy, 42, suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries in the crash, which happened about 3:30 p.m. as they were riding an ATV west on the Kelsey Notch ATV trail.

The Provenchers were trying to negotiate a rocky, downhill section of the trail when Mr. Provencher lost control of the ATV, causing it to glance off an embankment and roll over. Both suffered arm injuries in the crash, according to Fish and Game officials.

Colebrook Fire Chief Brett Brooks, who was out riding an ATV that afternoon with friends, came across the injured couple and he and others provided aid and made calls for additional rescue personnel to come to the scene, which was about two miles into the woods from the nearest road.

Brooks and his riding companions transported the Provenchers from the scene to the end of Kelsey Notch Road, where they were met by 45th Parallel EMS Ambulance. The Provenchers were then transported to the Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital in Colebrook for further evaluation and treatment.

Alcohol is not considered a factor in the crash, which is being investigated by Fish and Game conservation officers.

The Provenchers were wearing helmet and eye protection, which likely prevented more serious injury, officials said.
