Chinese citizen held on $50,000 cash bail in car case

CONCORD — State authorities arrested a Chinese citizen on Monday and set bail at $50,000 cash, after charging him with lying about where he lived in order to obtain titles and registration documents for motor vehicles.

New Hampshire State Police said they arrested Quincy, Mass., resident Zhiyu “Tony” Zhang, 30, at Concord District Court, where he was facing unrelated charges.

He is charged with criminal solicitation and unsworn falsification. Authorities said his arrest followed a nine-month investigation that involved the state police Narcotics Investigations Unit, the Department of Motor Vehicles, and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Zhang owns American Lending LLC, a company that seeks out car purchasing agents in order to export vehicles, state police said.

He is scheduled to be arraigned in Manchester District Court at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
