PORTSMOUTH - Families First Health and Support Center, 100 Campus Drive, has set its schedule of free parenting classes for August, which includes one that will focus on the back-to-school transition.
. "Transitioning to the Fall" will be offered twice, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, and from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19.
This class will help families get off on the right track this fall. Parents will learn how to set up routines, juggle schedules and give their child the preparation that will prevent meltdowns later.
"How to Talk so Kids Will Listen and Listen so Kids Will Talk" is set for 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5.
This class is for parents who are tired of having to repeat things 20 times or who wish their child would just listen and cooperate. It will teach them how to connect with their child while keeping their authority and providing guidance. It will cover getting cooperation, consequences that teach, defusing outbursts, and teaching kids to solve their own problems.
"Teaching Kids Respect and Manners" is set for 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12.
This class will help parents identify reasonable boundaries and expectations that will help teach the concepts of respect and integrity and give children a clear understanding of good manners.
