Casey Lawrence threw eight strong innings to lead the way to a 5-3 win for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats at Harrisburg Friday night.
Lawrence improved to 7-5, allowing just four hits and no earned runs. Reliever Mickey Storey worked the ninth, allowing a run before locking down the win for his first save.
Dalton Pompey got the New Hampshire (50-56) offense started with a leadoff triple and scored on a sacrifice fly from Matt Newman to make it 1-0 New Hampshire after one.
Newman doubled and scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-0 in the fourth.
The Fisher Cats added three more in the fifth frame. Catcher Derrick Chung singled with one out and scored on a K.C. Hobson double. Jorge Flores singled and stole second base and both Hobson and Flores scored on a Jon Berti single into right field to make it 5-0.
Harrisburg scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh. The Senators (42-63) had runners on second and third with two outs when a fielding error by Andy Burns at third base allowed both runners to score to make it 5-2.
Kevin Keyes singled with one out in the ninth and Drew Vettleson doubled him home to cut the New Hampshire lead to 5-3 before Storey could retire the final two batters and end the game.
The teams play again tonight at 6.
Mystic 9, Keene 0: Mystic led 6-0 after three innings and never looked back in blanking the host Swamp Bats in Keene Friday night.
Keene had seven hits from seven different players while Mystic hit four home runs. Toby Handley (solo home run), Nick Ruppert of Dartmouth (two-run homer, two RBIs), Aaron Hill (two RBIs and a two-run home run) and Dan Hoy (three-run home run) led Mystic. Keene is 15-18 and will host Danbury tonight at 6:30.
