Basement blaze extinguished in Derry

DERRY — Firefighters quickly doused a basement blaze Tuesday night in a duplex on Derryfield Road.

The fire was reported about 10:15 p.m. at 28R Derryfield Road. When fire crews arrived, smoke was pouring out of the 24-by-40 foot, 2½-story duplex.

Firefighters entered the building and quickly put out the fire in a basement room. Fire crews had the blaze under control in about 45 minutes.

The fire caused heat and smoke damage throughout the basement and smoke damage throughout the house.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Derry Bureau of Fire Prevention. Chester, Hampstead, Salem and Londonderry provided station coverage.

Fire officials said no one was home at the time of the fire.
