Man arrested after shots allegedly fired in Mont Vernon
MONT VERNON — A 67-year-old man was arrested Sunday night after police were called to a Beech Hill Road home for a report of someone yelling and firing a gun.
Police said Stephen D. Smith, of 119 Beech Hill Road, was in his driveway with a gun about 9 p.m. when they arrived.
He was arrested after police said they used a cruiser's public address system to get him to voluntarily put down the gun.
Four firearms also were recovered from his home, authorities said.
Smith is charged with criminal threatening and reckless conduct, both Class B felonies.
He is being held on $5,000 cash/surety bail after his arraignment in 9th Circuit Court, Merrimack District Division. He then was transported to the Valley Street jail in Manchester.
Smith is to return to 9th Circuit Court, Milford District Division on July 31 for a probable cause hearing.
