City man arrested in shooting incident

MANCHESTER - One man is under arrest and another man was injured after an alleged robbery Saturday afternoon during which a gun was fired.

According to police, Nicholas Dupras, 35, of Manchester has been charged with robbery, second-degree assault, reckless conduct and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Police responded to a report of shots fired at 623 Silver St. around 2:20 p.m. Witnesses said a man had fled from that address and appeared to be injured.

Investigating officers confirmed that a shot had been fired but could not find the injured man.

Later that evening, detectives located the 24-year-old victim at a hospital, where he was being treated for what police said were non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives interviewed the victim, who told police he had gone to the Silver Street address to meet someone and while there, a man had robbed him at gunpoint.

During the confrontation, the victim was struck in the head with a gun and a round discharged.

Police said the incident does not appear to have been random. They are asking anyone with information to call the detectives division at Manchester police, at 668-8711.

Man airlifted after ATV crashes into tree

PITTSFIELD - A 21-year-old local man had to be airlifted to a Lebanon hospital with serious injuries after his all-terrain vehicle crashed into a tree Saturday.

Patrol Officer Joseph McCormack said Daniel Farmer and a friend were riding ATVs on Clough Road when Farmer's vehicle bumped the other ATV's tire, slid out of control and struck a tree.

Nicholas Abell, deputy fire chief, said Farmer, who was not wearing a helmet, suffered serious head and chest injuries.

First responders from Pittsfield fire department called for the DHART medical helicopter, which landed at a ballfield on Tilton Hill Road and then transported Farmer to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.

The crash happened around 11:30 a.m., across the street from Farmer's home, McCormack said. The injured man's friend ran to the house to tell Farmer's mother what had happened, he said.

Pittsfield police are investigating the crash, with assistance from the state Fish and Game Department.

Abell said the serious crash was a reminder of the importance of wearing a helmet while operating an ATV.

"A helmet would have made all the difference," he said. "If he was wearing a helmet, we probably wouldn't have had to airlift him out."
