Man faces charges in Rochester and Somersworth

Hamel

ROCHESTER — After receiving help from the public, police arrested a homeless man and charged him with robbing the Route 125 Shell Station in June.

Brandon Hamel, 18, a transient, was charged with armed robbery for allegedly taking an undisclosed amount of cash from the Shell Station along Milton Road – Route 125 on June 25.

Police received information that Hamel was allegedly involved in the robbery and staying at a home along Congress Street. After watching the house for several hours, officers arrested Hamel – without incident – as he attempted to leave the home through a back door, according to police.

Hamel, who refused bail, was transported to Somersworth Police Department to face undisclosed charges from their department prior to going to Strafford County Jail in Dover. He is scheduled to appear for arraignment Monday at 11 a.m. at the 7th Circuit Court – Rochester District.

Armed robbery is a Class A felony, which could result in a maximum sentence of 7 ½ to 15 years in prison, if convicted.
