Burglar, caught stealing change and Gatorade, turns himself in to police

BRUSO

HOOKSETT — With a quick photo identification and a phone call, Hooksett police were able to convince a local man to turn himself in on burglary charges without incident Monday.

The reported burglary occurred at a residence at 192 Londonderry Turnpike. Shortly after 10 a.m., 39-year-old Bernard Bruso of Auburn allegedly entered the house, likely through a front window, and began taking items, said Sgt. James Bradley.

One of the home’s tenants walked in, and Bruso told him not to call police, according to Bradley. The tenant used his cellphone to photograph Bruso, who exited through a rear window and made his way to a business across the street.

The photos were provided to responding officers, who quickly identified Bruso from past dealings, said Bradley.

“He was unarmed and wasn’t a threat to the witnesses,” said Bradley. “Basically, he gave up and told us where he was. It was all fairly simple.”

Bruso answered when police called him and offered his location. Less than an hour after police received the burglary report, Bruso was arrested without incident and charged with Class B felony burglary. He was later released on $10,000 personal recognizance bail and is scheduled to appear at Hooksett District Court on Aug. 20.

Bradley said that Bruso doesn’t have a prior criminal record.

Less than $20 in change and other property, including two bottles of Gatorade, were reported stolen.

Bradley said the same home was burglarized last year, with several expensive items, including computers, tablets and cellphones taken, though the two incidents are not thought to be connected, he said.
