Gala to support Memorial Hospital's legacy of providing healthcare
NORTH CONWAY — For more than 100 years, Memorial Hospital has provided healthcare to residents of the Mount Washington Valley and to make sure it can continue to do that for another century, supporters are invited to attend the hospital’s third annual Legacy Gala.
To be held Saturday, Sept. 27 at the Attitash Grand Summit Hotel in nearby Bartlett, the red carpet, black tie Legacy Gala will raise money for the Memorial Hospital Foundation’s Community Wellness Endowment Fund. The purpose of the fund is to “provide financial security for Memorial Hospital’s future.”
According to Memorial Hospital President and CEO Scott McKinnon, the endowment fund will help create “a permanent legacy, providing Memorial Hospital with reliable financial support year after year, generation after generation.”
The 2014 Legacy Gala – whose theme is “An Evening of Vintage Elegance” — will offer what Kathy Bennett, who is Memorial Hospital’s director of marketing and public relations, described as “an exceptional evening of culinary delight and superb musical entertainment and dancing.”
The formal-attire soiree begins at 6 p.m. with guests walking down the red carpet – photos will be taken — and into a cocktail hour during which they may enjoy a glass of champagne and appetizers as well as a shrimp-and-oyster raw bar while jazz pianist Joe “Sonny” Barbato provides the musical background.
Dinner will be at 7 p.m. and the meal will once again be under the direction of Ken Hazelton, who is the Attitash Grand’s executive chef, and who, Bennett noted, made such a powerful impression at the inaugural Legacy Gala.
This year’s dinner menu features a choice of four entrée duets: Skewered Lobster Tail with Tournedos of Sirloin with a Jack Daniels Demi-Glace; Baked Haddock with Buttery Herb Crust and Wellington of Chicken with Lobster Cognac Sauce; Chicken Wellington with Lobster Cognac and Skewered Lobster; and Marinated Vegetables of Eggplant, Red Bell Pepper, Zucchini, Summer Squash, Garlic in a Tomato Basil Cream Sauce topped with Herbed Mozzarella, Lemon Orzo and Roasted Red Pepper with Fingerling Potatoes.
Each table will receive a complimentary wine to highlight the entrees and during dinner, the Amarantos string quartet will perform classical, baroque, and contemporary music.
After dinner, Jonathan Sarty and the Cold River Radio Band will perform. Well-known in the Mount Washington Valley, the group’s repertoire includes classic jazz, big-band jazz, and swing, as well as 1950’s boogie woogie and rock n’ roll dance hits.
