Twins Smoke Shop focuses on good cigars, happy clients
LONDONDERRY — When Kurt Kendall and his business partners opened Twins Smoke Shop in 1997, they had a rented space and a few boxes of cigars.
Since that day, the business has grown steadily, flourishing in fact, as Granite Staters and neighbors from Massachusetts trek to Twins’ three current Greater Manchester locations for the most popular cigar brands, a laid- back atmosphere and much more.
“Basically, when we started our store in ’97, we had little to nothing and built it up slowly, literally one box of cigars at a time,” said Kendall. “We began with little to no capital ... and our goal, all along, was to have a full selection of cigars and to really focus on customer service and keeping what’s hot on the market on our shelves.”
Recently, locals voted Twins the top area smoke shop in the Union Leader’s Readers’ Choice Awards, a distinction Kendall said has been earned through offering customers a unique experience every time they walk through the door.
Seven years ago, Twins opened a second shop in Hooksett at 1275 Hooksett Road, in front of the K-Mart plaza, and subsequently moved to a location at 9 W. Alice Ave., right off Exit 9N on Interstate 93. A year after that, Kendall and company opened their first Manchester store inside the Mall of New Hampshire, and have since moved storefronts twice within the mall.
Now, Kendall said Twins is in the process of moving its ever-popular Londonderry store at 128 Rockingham Road down the street to 80 Perkins Road, right at the corner of Route 28 and I-93, off Exit 5.
“In my opinion, it’s at the best intersection in the entire state of New Hampshire,” Kendall said. “We’re talking 9,300 square feet with a full lounge, full bar and full-service retail store.”
Twins is also the base of operations for the 7-20-4 cigar company, which distributes its popular local product throughout the United States.
“7-20-4 has given me the opportunity to travel across the country and improve what we do by taking a lot of the successful concepts everyone else uses and then getting to pick and choose the best ideas to utilize at our stores,” said Kendall.
“Right now, we’re looking to become world class in our new world headquarters and are making our three stores the best we can by putting our focus into offering the best service with the best selection.”
