Amherst mini-golf course is readers' top choice

AMHERST - A 20-year-old miniature golf course nestled inside the Amherst Country Club has been selected as the best mini-golf course by newspaper readers.

Ponemah Green Family Fun Center is receiving a New Hampshire Union Leader Readers' Choice award for 2014, receiving the highest number of votes for the best miniature golf facility in the state.

"We are thrilled. It is so great to be honored in this way," said Chad Zingales, director of golf operations.

Zingales said the 18-hole miniature golf course is a nice complement to the nearby driving range and ice cream parlor.

"It does attract a lot of people, especially during the summer months," said Zingales, noting about 60 rounds of mini-golf were completed recently during a warm June morning. "A lot of families come to play, grandparents bring their grandkids and couples tend to come here on dates."
The mini-golf course was constructed about 20 years ago, but underwent significant renovations about a decade ago, according to Zingales.

The improved course includes beautiful landscaping with flower gardens, perennial beds and water features.
Several of the holes incorporate natural obstacles and water, including a large waterfall, stream and fish, said Zingales.

Perhaps the most popular hole is 17, which is lined by the water's edge and can be challenging for even talented golfers who sometimes end up hitting their ball into the water, he said.
"That seems to be the favorite, but they are all fun," Zingales said of the different obstacles and barriers creating loads of entertainment for competitive players. In addition to regular miniature golf, Ponemah Green also hosts frequent miniature golf tournaments, raising the bar on traditional mini-golf games.
The golf course is open daily from 6 a.m. until 9 p.m., and is located at 72 Ponemah Road. The price is $4 for children 8 and under, and $7 for adults. All day passes are available for $5 for children 8 and under, and $8 for adults. Discount coupons are available by joining an online email list available at
