Officials probe fire at Jaffrey trash sorting building
JAFFREY — A two-alarm fire that damaged a trash sorting building at Monadnock Disposal Service is under investigation by the state Fire Marshal’s Service, Fire Chief David Chamberlain said.
Chamberlain said firefighters encountered a "heavy fire" at the 101 Old Sharon Road building that had spread to a nearby excavator about 2:15 p.m. Thursday. Workers who were inside the building when the fire started were able to escape safely, he said.
Using another excavator, Assistant Fire Chief Keith Dupuis removed trash and debris so firefighters could knock down the blaze, which was declared under control at 4:20 p.m. One firefighter was treated at the scene for heat-related symptoms, Chamberlain said. There were no other injuries in the fire.
He said the fire is under investigation because of its similarity to an April 2012 fire at Monadnock Disposal Service while sorting the same material that ignited Thursday’s fire.
