NH man sought in connection with Maine murder arrested on unrelated charges

CHRISTOPHER DUBE

DOVER — As part of an investigation into a double murder in Maine, a local man is being held on a warrant issued from an unrelated matter in the city.

Maine authorities wanted to speak to two New Hampshire men after Russell Lavoie, 42, of Old Orchard Beach, Maine, and Jeffrey Lude, 37, of Biddeford, Maine, both died of multiple gunshot wounds following an incident at 19 Western Ave. in Biddeford on Sunday evening.

As part of the investigation, police spoke to dozens of people in Biddeford, including four who may have been at the home in or around the time of the shooting. They hoped to speak to two other men, who have both made contact with authorities, according to Stephen McCausland, spokesman for Maine State Police.

On Tuesday, Christopher Dube, 28, of Dover, met with authorities in Saco, Maine, about the matter in Biddeford. He was later arrested on an “unrelated probation violation charge,” according to McCausland.

Dover Police Lt. Brian Dolleman said he has no knowledge of the Maine case, but Dube is wanted in the city for two misdemeanor domestic violence charges involving criminal threatening and simple assault.

“We have warrants for his arrest,” Dolleman said, adding he can’t provide further details as it remains an active case.

Regardless of the location, Dolleman said if Dube is arrested or interviewed by police, authorities will probably conduct a background check. He added this will lead to his eventual return to New Hampshire.

“If he’s picked up in Maine, it could be some time before we (in Dover) get our hands on him,” Dolleman said.

Nonetheless, Dolleman said Dover Police plan to see the charges though. He added police and the courts are very familiar with the extradition process between the two states.

Dube remains at York County Jail in Alfred, Maine.

McCausland said investigators intend to speak to Lance Palmer, 44, of Auburn, who was “considered armed and dangerous,” Wednesday.

“Lance Palmer also has made contact with police and is expected to be interviewed sometime today. No charges are pending against him,” according to a release by Maine State Police.

According to Auburn Police, Palmer has no history with the department and there are no local warrants for his arrest as of Wednesday.

While further details have not been released, Maine authorities continue to investigate the shooting.

“Evidence from the shooting scene will be analyzed at the State Police Crime Lab in Augusta. In addition, dozens of interviews have taken place with neighbors, friends and family of the dead men and those who live in the apartment house, where the shootings took place,” according to the release.
