MANCHESTER — Lunch in the Park is getting an extended run this summer.

The Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce is expanding its weekly event from three to eight days over the next two months, beginning Thursday.

Police Chief Dave Mara, Mayor Ted Gatsas and Michael Skelton, the newly named Chamber president, will kick off the series with a news conference to talk about the program at 11:30 a.m. at the entrance to Veterans Park on Elm Street, across from the Radisson Hotel and Conference Center.

The program, an initiative of the Chamber’s Downtown Committee and the Manchester Parks and Recreation Division, encourages downtown workers, business owners, property owners, residents and other people to have lunch in the park from noon to 2 p.m. on Thursdays through Aug. 28.

“Veterans Park, which faces an array of challenges, is often the first impression visitors get when they come to downtown Manchester, and we want to make sure that impression is a good one,” Skelton said in a news release.

Lunch in the Park participants are encouraged to use Door to Door Delivery’s website, d2ddelivery.com/, to order lunch from participating restaurants and have it delivered to the park. Participants can also bring a brown bag lunch from home or a nearby restaurant. While the program is largely unstructured, networking will be encouraged, and recorded music will be provided, the chamber said.

Corporate sponsors include Manchester Community College–Downtown, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Centrix Bank, Pembroke Building Luxury Apartments, and Verizon Wireless Arena.
