NASHUA — A summer pilot program is offering free bus service to Nashua children, taking them to popular recreation sites throughout the city for the next several weeks.

“This bus service is a perfect opportunity for kids, families and individuals to stay active and enjoy some of the wonderful recreational activities the city has to offer,” said Mayor Donnalee Lozeau, encouraging residents to participate in the pilot program that was launched Monday.

A city trolley will be used for the recreation bus route, which will drive residents to and from about 10 locations in Nashua. It will run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday from now until Aug. 22.

Locations in the bus loop include Greeley Park, Nashua Police Athletic League, Lincoln Park, Foster’s Square, Nashua YMCA, Main Dunstable Fields, Nashua Public Library, Rotary Pool, Girls Inc., Centennial Pool and the Boys and Girls Club. There is also easy access to Mine Falls Park from several of the bus stop locations.

The bus service is free for all children ages 6-18 who register for the program. A bus monitor will be provided to ensure the safety of youth riders while they are on the trolley, according to organizers.

Children enrolled in the program will be able to use their free summer bus pass to access all city bus routes, in addition to the pilot summer recreation route.

Students must register to receive their free bus pass, which does require a parent signature and emergency contact information. Parents may register their children at the Division of Public Health and Community Services at 18 Mulberry St., the Transit Center at 30 Elm St. and the Parks and Recreation Department at 100 Concord St.

Children under 10 years of age must be accompanied by someone older than 10 while using the city trolley.
