NH woman promoted to rank of Air Force major
U.S. Air Force Capt. Lindsey Bauer of Manchester was promoted to the rank of major on June 30.
The ceremony took place while she was flying her Cessna 208 at an altitude of 11,500. After she put the plane on autopilot, she was promoted by Brig. Gen. John E. Michel, commander of the 438th Air Expeditionary Wing in Kabul, Afghanistan. Bauer is serving a tour in Afghanistan, where she not only mentors and instructs the first woman Afghan pilot, but instructs other Afghan pilots as well. She also serves as Brig. Gen Michel's aide.
She is a 2004 graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy. While in the United States, she is stationed at Maguire Air Force Base, New Jersey. At home, she is a KC-10 (refueler) pilot. One of her two sisters, Amy, served two tours in Afghanistan as a Medevac Blackhawk pilot and is a 2006 graduate of West Point. Her mother, Carol Beard Bauer of Manchester, and her father, Stephen Bauer, are both Air Force veterans.
