No Derry town administrator named yet

DERRY — Town councilors are still in talking among themselves and chose not to name a new town administrator at their Tuesday night meeting.

The council had set a goal of naming the new administrator as early as July 1; the field of 76 candidates had recently been narrowed to two finalists — Richard Brown of Massachusetts, and Stephen Eldridge of Maine. The council wouldn’t be naming the new administrator at Tuesday’s session, Council Chairman Mark Osborne said.

Osborne said council members are still in discussions with the candidates.

Also at the meeting, Councilor Phyllis Katsakiores said she has received many complaints recently relating to people setting off fireworks late at night. She asked the council to consider passing a noise ordinance.

“I understand fireworks on the Fourth of July but do they have to start in May,” she said.Osborne said the council should decide whether to consider a noise ordinance, or an ordinance specifically focused on fireworks and the timing of when they may be set off.

The council didn’t take any action on the proposal, but could bring up the item at another meeting.
