Pinkerton officials wait to respond to tuition issues raised by Hooksett School Board members

DERRY — Pinkerton Academy administrators said Friday they will wait until they are formally notified before responding to comments from Hooksett School Board members relating to the tuition contract.

Earlier this week, Hooksett School Board member John Lyscars suggested an agreement also be forged with the Manchester School District to promote healthy competition for Hooksett students. In addition, such an agreement would allow parents and students to pick the high school of their choice, according to Lyscars’ suggestion.

Also during the meeting, Hooksett board members discussed aligning tuition costs with both Manchester and Pinkerton; encouraging the Derry high school to push back its daily start time; and building in an opt-out clause should Hooksett decide to build its own high school in the future.

But Pinkerton administrators said they have yet to be contacted formally by Hooksett officials on these matters. They are willing to work with Hooksett, but want to wait to respond until they are contacted by Hooksett and new Headmaster Griffin Morse is available at the school, said Chip Underhill, executive director of public relations and external affairs.

“We look forward to helping the Hooksett School Board define an arrangement with Pinkerton that works well for the Hooksett community and its high school students,” said Underhill. “Together, we can move forward on any questions and issues once Pinkerton has received a formal inquiry from Hooksett and new Headmaster Griffin Morse is in place.”

Morse is scheduled to begin work July 1, Underhill added.
