Fallen Marine to return to NH on Saturday; calling hours, service set for next week in Peterborough

Lance Cpl. Brandon Garabrant

PETERBOROUGH — Calling hours and services for Lance Cpl. Brandon Garabrant are planned to take place at ConVal Regional High School in Peterborough next week.

Garabrant’s remains are expected to arrive at Manchester Airport Saturday morning, according to his mother, Jessie Garabrant.

Calling hours will take place at ConVal on Thursday, July 3, from 2 to 8 p.m.

On Saturday, July 5, a service for Garabrant is planned at ConVal at 10 a.m., followed by a burial service at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen.

Garabrant was one of three Marines killed by a roadside bomb June 20 in Afghanistan, where he was serving in the final months of America’s combat mission there.

The 19-year-old Marine grew up in Greenfield and graduated from ConVal High in 2013. He was the son of John and Jessie Garabrant and had a younger brother and sister, Jacob and Mykala.

Before becoming a Marine, he was a Peterborough police and fire explorer and a Temple firefighter.

His desire to wear his Marine Corps dress uniform to his high school graduation drew national attention last year when the school said it was against policy.

He chose not to fight the decision and to graduate in the traditional cap and gown “out of respect for the USMC and ConVal,” he said at the time.
