Wiggins tops in NBA Draft; Celtics take Smart, YoungReuters

NEW YORK — Canada’s Andrew Wiggins from the University of Kansas was taken with the No. 1 pick of the NBA Draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday.
The 19-year-old Wiggins, a 6-foot-8, guard with great leaping ability, averaged 17.1 points and 5.9 rebounds last season as a freshman. He joins a Cavs team that was 33-49 last season.
Jabari Parker of Duke University was taken with the second pick of the draft by the Milwaukee Bucks.
Cameroon’s Joel Embiid from the University of Kansas was taken with the third pick by the Philadelphia 76ers. Embiid is a 7-foot center with outstanding defensive skills.
The Boston Celtics, with the sixth and 17th picks in the first round, chose Marcus Smart, a 6-3 point guard out of Oklahoma State, then James Young, a guard/forward from Kentucky.
