Swamp Bats top Vermont
A two-run double by Jared Mederos highlighted a four-run, eighth inning rally which lifted the Keene Swamp Bats to a 6-5 win against Vermont in a New England Collegiate Baseball League game Thursday before 1,007 fans at Alumni Field. The win lifted Keene’s record to 6-9 and dropped Vermont to 9-6.
Keene sent eight batters to the plate in the eighth inning and produced three hits including the two-run double by Mederos with two outs, tying the game at 5-5.
Following the double, a passed ball allowed Zach Lauricella to score from third base with the winning run. Lauricella had an RBI single earlier in the inning.
Lauricella also had a solo homer in the fourth inning, his first homer of the season. He had two hits and two RBIs in the game. Keene’s other run came in the fifth inning on a RBI double from Connor Fitzsimons, scoring Alex Liquori.
The four-run eighth inning rally made a winner out of reliever Ben Criscuolo (Southern New Hampshire) , who got the final out in the eighth frame and pitched a scoreless ninth. Keene had nine hits and Pat McGrath had three.
Keene will play at North Adams Friday at 6:30 p.m.
