Music minister Grinnell leaving First Congregational Church

MANCHESTER — The veteran minister of music at the First Congregational Church announced earlier this month that he is resigning the post he has held for 38 years.

Kenneth Grinnell said he will play his last Sunday worship on July 20 and formally leave employment with the downtown church on Aug. 31.

“I do not know what God has in store for me next, but look forward to another time filled with exciting opportunities among those who are life-affirming, soul-nourishing and prayer-enriched,” he wrote to church members on June 9.
An organist by trade, Grinnell is well known in church music circles. He has written and performed a Christmas Cantata and passion play music.

He has produced concerts that include Handel’s “Messiah,’’ Duke Ellington’s Sacred Concerts and nights of gospel music.
His Christmas concerts at the church raise money for the Union Leader Santa Fund for the Salvation Army.

In the letter, Grinnell said he played at nearly 1,800 worship services, 900 weddings and 800 funerals.
