ROXBURY — An off-duty Keene firefighter and his father, a retired fire captain, rescued a man from the Branch River Wednesday night, Keene Fire Capt. Mike Burke said.

By the time firefighters arrived at the site behind a home at 404 Branch Road at 7:10 p.m., firefighter Craig Matson and his father, retired Keene Fire Capt. Alex Matson Jr., had pulled the man to safety, Burke said. The man was taken to Cheshire Medical Center for treatment.

Burke said he could not provide the man’s name.
