Swamp Bats topped by Gulls in NECBL

The Newport Gulls defeated the Keene Swamp Bats 2-0 Monday in a New England Collegiate Baseball League contest in Newport R.I.

Newport starter Mike Mancuso gained the victory after working six innings.

He allowed five hits and issued no walks.

Mancuso fanned six batters.

Keene had six hits, led by Connor Fitzsimons with two hits.

Keene starting pitcher Dominic Severino took the loss. Severino fanned six batters and allowed one run, two walks and four hits.

Vail Salter homered off Severino in the second inning. Newport (10-4) got an insurance run in the eighth inning on an RBI hit by Salter. Keene, which dropped to 5-8, will return home to face the Laconia Muskrats today at Alumni Field.
