Police find drugs and guns in Manchester apartment after sting operation

June 18. 2014 9:58PM

MANCHESTER — Police early Wednesday morning arrested a city man after a drug sting operation that included three cocaine buys by undercover officers during the past three months.

Rene Quiles, 40, of 96 Ashland Ave., was stopped driving his personal vehicle in the area of Huse and Mammoth roads just before 6 a.m.

He was booked at the Manchester Police Department on Valley Street and arraigned later in the morning in 9th Circuit Court-District Division-Manchester.

As soon as Quiles was taken into custody, members of the department’s special enforcement division and members of the SWAT team went to Quile’s apartment to execute a search warrant.

Quile’s wife and 6-year-old and 10-month-old children were removed from the apartment while the search was done.

Police reported finding 14 grams of cocaine, with a street value of $1,400; 15.8 grams of marijuana, with a street value $160; $5,495 in cash, as well as multiple scales, packaging equipment and cutting agents. Police also located a 12-gauge shotgun and a .45 handgun.

Quiles was charged with six felonies: one possession of a narcotic with intent to distribute, three of sale of a controlled drug, and two of felon in possession of a firearm. He was also charged with one misdemeanor of possession of a controlled drug.

At his arraignment in Circuit Court Wednesday morning, a police prosecutor said Quiles has convictions in both New Hampshire and New York.

Quiles could enter no plea to the felony charges, so a probable cause hearing was set for July 3, so a judge can determine whether there is sufficient evidence to send the case to the Hillsborough County North grand jury for possible indictment. There will be a status hearing on the misdemeanor July 3.

Bail was set at $50,000 cash/surety, with a hearing to determine the source of any funds offered for bail.
