McDade, Schimpf, Wilson pace Fishers in rain-delayed win in Va.

RICHMOND, Va. -- Mike McDade went 3-for-5 with 3 RBI and Ryan Schimpf and Kenny Wilson hit homers as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats opened a series in Richmond with a 6-3 win over the Flying Squirrels on Friday night at The Diamond.

The game was delayed nearly two hours at the start due to thunderstorms.

Ryan Schimpf homered in the first to give the Fisher Cats an early 1-0 lead. His 15th of the season, and fourth longball of the roadtrip, came off Giants top prospect Kyle Crick (4-2).

New Hampshire (28-38) extended the lead to 2-0 in the top of the third inning. Jon Berti doubled and scored on a Mike McDade single.

Richmond (37-28) put together three hits in the third to tie the game at 2-2. Myles Schroeder and Kelby Tomlinson both singled, and both scored on a triple by Angel Villalona. Those would be the only runs the Squirrels scored against winning pitcher Austin Bibens-Dirkx (2-1), who worked five innings.

The Fisher Cats went back in front for good in the top of the fifth inning. Wilson bunted for a base hit to start the inning and Berti followed with a single, advancing into scoring position when Wilson took third. Both scored on McDade's third hit, a single to left field to make it 4-2.

Richmond closed to 4-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning. Matt Duffy walked, stole second and moved to third when the throw went into centerfield. Jarrett Parker plated Duffy with a double.

Wilson homered in the ninth and Berti followed with a single. He stole second, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on Schimpf's sacrifice fly.

Randy Boone worked a perfect ninth to nail down his eighth save.

The Fisher Cats and Flying Squirrels meet again on Saturday at 6:05 p.m. RHP Radhames Liz (0-0, 0.00) is scheduled to start for New Hampshire against Richmond LHP Kelvin Marte (4-2, 4.98).

The Fisher Cats return home on Tuesday, June 17, to open a three-game series against the Altoona Curve (Pittsburgh Pirates) at 7:05 p.m.
