Pedestrian trails proposed at Nashua Technology Park

NASHUA — As the Nashua Technology Park continues to expand, a new pedestrian trail is being proposed to make the large development site walkable and welcoming. With the Gateway Hills community within the Technology Park under construction, and recent plans for a future Homewood Suites by Hilton Hotels & Resorts moving forward, developers are now hoping to keep the multi-parcel site connected with many walkways.


“Throughout the development and approval process of Gateway Hills, many local officials and board members have inquired about providing an internal trail system connecting all site amenities and developments,” says a memo to conservation officials from Fieldstone Land Consultants, the firm representing developer John J. Flatley.

Flatley is now proposing to offer a campus-style setting including trails, walkways and an observation deck at the uniquely integrated residential and commercial complex off Exit 1 of the F.E. Everett Turnpike near the Massachusetts border.

“Now that Gateway Hills is further along in construction, my client is looking to address the connectivity between some of the developments,” states the letter from Fieldstone Land Consultants.

The Flatley Company has assembled a number of parcels over the years at the Nashua Technology Park location, which currently houses more than one million square feet of research and development space.


In addition, about 180 luxury apartment units were previously constructed as part of the first phase of the Gateway Hills community. Last fall, the planning board approved the second phase of the Tara Heights apartment complex, which is now under construction and will eventually bring 384 residential units into southern Nashua.


The multi-million dollar housing development upon completion will feature upscale apartments with amenities such as an outdoor swimming pool, clubhouse, playground, garages, new access drive, emergency access road and recreational area. In conjunction with the apartments, a large retail village referred to as Tara Commons has been built at the entrance to Gateway Hills on Spit Brook Road.


In 2012, the Flatley Co. broke ground on two medical buildings, a retail strip and bank at the technology park. Furthermore, additional site plans to construct a Homewood Suites by Hilton, a 105-room, four-story hotel, were introduced earlier this year.

To create the proposed pedestrian trails and observation deck that will connect all of the office, commercial and residential space, the Flatley Company will present its plans to the Nashua Conservation Commission next week.


The board must approve the project for it to move forward, in part because there are wetland and buffer impacts associated with the work, according to plans on file at Nashua City Hall.

The Conservation Commission meeting is at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Nashua City Hall.
